Borrowing from the format of television series, we speak of two seasons (2017 / 2018) with five episodes each. The episodes are based on thematic clusters derived from the leitmotifs, VERMÖGEN 2017 and PASSION 2018, and are jointly conceived, developed, and realized by the invited participants.
The Future of Demonstration focuses on new forms, formats, and intensities of artistic work. We see art, theory, and technology not as separate realms, but as vital contributions for post-disciplinary practices. The experience of their entanglement underlies our speculative approach towards the demonstrations.
We reject the classical division of art and theory in the exhibition and the conference. Instead, artists, theorists and experts from other fields develop and realize projects jointly by contributing their competence and experience.
The Future of Demonstration stands for transgressing limits and intersecting social, technological, and biological material, phenomena, and cultures. The project’s foundational character is intense collective and active experience. Its aim is to provoke a performative “revolutionary celebration” of the post-digital age by redefining terms, transforming processes and transvaluing technological and ideological resources.
Our approach is defined by the following methods:
- A post-disciplinary approach to what we know and cannot know, what is possible and what is impossible.
- A post-media approach that feeds on a variety of narratives, theories, media, and materialities.
- A performative, ‘long-durée’ process of realizing concrete propositions for demonstrations that combine the term’s social, technological, pedagogical and artistic meanings.
- Open, participative formats that approach competence, expertise, subjectivity as terms of productive and inclusive engagements.
- Transversal dissemination (publishing as public-making) that connects the episodes and their installative settings and performative acts with the public.
